Celebrate John Lennon’s life and legacy through images and stories featured in the exhibition “Give Peace a Chance: John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s Bedin for Peace” in the Monmouth Museum’s Main Gallery on the Brookdale Community College campus, Lincroft, New Jersey, USA now through May 8.
From May 26 to June 2, 1969, John Lennon and Yoko Ono spent their time promoting peace from a bed in Suite 1742 at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, Canada. The bed-in was covered by media around the world, but only one photojournalist, Gerry Deiter, documented the entire eight-day event, as the couple received and entertained celebrities, politicians, reporters and disc jockeys.
More than 40 of Deiter’s large-format images capture the essence of the happening and are the centerpiece of this special exhibition. Deiter also documented the historic recording of the peace anthem, “Give Peace a Chance,” during the bed-in. Read stories from participants and enjoy music and video presentations. Explore a re-creation of the Queen Elizabeth Hotel bedroom and play guitar as John, Paul or George on stage in The Beatles Rock Band Studio.
Admission is $7 per person; museum members and Brookdale staff and students with a valid ID are admitted free. Details: 732-747-2266/www.monmouthmuseum.org.
